 Usage

Once installed, theSecure Fields feature for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 is configure for each List or Library that requires fields to be secured.

List/Library configuration

Each List/Library is configure via the List/Library settings Administration screen. From theList/Library settings, under General Settings, the Security Filter configuration option is now available for this List or Library. Select Security Filter.

The following screen will appear. Under General Configuration, you have the availability to toggle the Security Filter using the Enabled checkbox.
Select from the Secure Field dropdown box, the field you would like to secure. This dropdown will list all available fields from the List/Library that can be secured.
In the screen below, we’ve added the Title field as a Secured Field.
The screen below demostrates the People Picker support. Individual users and SharePoint groups are supported with the Secure Field feature
The Visitor’s group and Owners group have been given Read access to the field. When the user views or edits the properties of the List/Library item, unless they are a member of these groups, they will not be able to view the Title field.
The screen below shows a second field being added as a Secured Field. This demonstrates that the Secure Field feature supports many fields in a List/Library.
Please note: When the “Read All” or “Edit All” check boxes are ticked, the People Picker control is disabled as all users retain these privileges.

How List/Library Security affects the Secure Fields?

Essentially, the Secure Fields adds another level of granularity to the List/Library security model.
Any potential users or groups must be set to the minimum level of access on the List/Library for the Secure field to be effective. Without the minimum access, the users/groups assigned Read or Edit access will not be able to display or edit any of the List/Library data.
The Secure Field does not elevate privileges if the user does not have fundamental access to the List/Library content. For example, in the screen above, the Visitor and Owner group must have at least Read access to the Library for the Read access to work on the Title field. If Visitors had Contribute rights (which include the ability to Edit) the Secure Field would prohibit the editing of the Title field for users in the Visitors group.
